Events and Updates

Hi Akelas! Just a reminder of some of the events that are coming up soon. Don’t forget to check the calendar often. To all Leaders, please be sure to check the calendar and add things that are not currently scheduled. Together we can keep the calendar updated so that it remains useful and the go-to when people have questions.

On February 21 at 7pm there will be a round-table. If you are a leader, it is good to attend these as you get inside information and contribute to decisions at the leadership level. Stuart and I have been trying to be sure there is a leader from Pack 454 at the Round-Tables to show our Pack’s strength and support. We will not be in town for this one so if someone wants to go, it would be nice.

There are two wolf den meetings coming up. Can someone remind me of the dates so I can add them to the calendar? I can’t find the email Elijah sent, sorry! Elijah, I have changed the settings so you should have access to add things to the calendar now.

The Pack’s Blue and Gold Ceremony is scheduled for February 28. Since Damarus Oos is planning this event, please contact her or Chris Oos, the Webelos Den Leader, for more information.

On March 3 at 10am there is a scout day at the WWII Museum. If your child wears a uniform, the entrance is free. Go here: WWII Museum for more information. They don’t have a page for scout day but on that website is a phone number so you can call and get more info.

On March 8 and 9 are Pinewood Derby Weigh In Days. On these two days you can weigh your car and take it back home to tweak it if it doesn’t pass. Allen and Connie Lintz are hosting this weigh-in at their home from 6-8pm. Contact them for more information. There will be two more weigh in days on the 19th and 20th. We hope to have the PWD track set up so you can test your car at that time before you turn it in. The big race is on Saturday, March 31. More information is coming soon.

Also, on March 20 there will be a Round-Table.

Did I forget anything?

Did Y’all Enjoy Caroling? What Should We Do Differently Next Year?

I had a blast and my boys enjoyed it too! I was tickled to see how eager the boys were to sing, and thrilled we had such a great turnout. Parents, you did a fantastic job making sure your boys practiced the songs at home. I did not expect them to be confident singers from the meager 3 rehearsals we had. Nice work parents!

I wish I had thought to supply water bottles for everyone after the first or second cul-de-sac because I know the singers got thirsty.

Also, I feel I should have planned this differently. I think we should have sang more “door to door” instead of trying to sing to a large crowd. We weren’t able to project our small voices across those large open spaces. I’m sure none of the people listening could really hear us all that well. Even though we would cover less ground, the people who DID hear us sing would enjoy it more I think, if we sing door to door.

Do you have any other ideas or want to comment on mine? I’d like to learn from this experience and make the next one even better!

Christmas Caroling Details and Map

Pack 454 will be caroling in the streets on December 10, 2011 from 6pm until around 8pm. We will meet at Belle Chasse Academy Parking Lot, assemble, and start walking. Our first stop is in front of Samantha Blair’s house, then we will work our way back toward the school, singing in 5 cul-de-sacs. When we get back to school, we will have hot chocolate or apple cider and cookies. Please bring your family’s favorite holiday cookies to share – maybe half a dozen or so – and when the event is over I’m sure we will all have fun exchanging and bartering for the remaining cookies!

See you Saturday!

Spaghetti Bake – Information and Details

On November 14 we will hold our first “Spaghetti Bake Fundraiser”. The food will be prepared in Patrician Housing’s Community Center. We will deliver to Belle Chasse Academy faculty and staff and will pre-sell tickets at the school prior to the 14th. If you can help with the pre-sale, please email CaShaldra Robinson at cashaldrac@gmail.com, Tammie Earl at 454chair@gmail.com, or Samantha Blair at 454treasurer@gmail.com.

Any proceeds will be used to purchase our Scouts’ first awards which will be ceremoniously delivered on November 17 at our next pack meeting.

The Spaghetti meal will include:

  • Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and optional Parmesan Cheese
  • Italian Salad
  • Garlic Bread
  • Banana Pudding

On the day of the fundraiser, we will need help preparing some of the foods ahead of time, cooking in the community center, and delivering food to BCA. We might also need someone to make a quick trip to the commissary if we happen to run out of something. If you are available to help, please contact one of the above mentioned committee members. We really appreciate your support!

Wow, So Much Going On – T-shirts, Committee, Den, and Pack Meetings, Camping, and MORE!

Hello Pack 454,

We have managed many housekeeping chores over the past couple of weeks. First let me thank all the leaders who were able to make it to our first Committee Meeting that was held “on the fly”! We managed to plan our calendar through December 2011 and will meet again on November 6 to finish the school year.

Another very exciting piece of news is that our Dens have all had their first successful meeting! Congratulations to all the Den Leaders for a job well done!

At the committee meeting we also discussed a Spaghetti Bake that will be held at the Patrician Community Center on November 14. We can surely use all the help we can get. This will be a fundraiser. We will cook a take-out plate that will consist of spaghetti and meat sauce, salad, bread, dessert, and a drink.

We ordered T-shirts and hope to have them by the October Pack meeting on October 27 at 6:30pm in the BCA cafeteria. If you haven’t ordered your shirts yet, we did order extras and will hopefully have them available and for sale at our Pack meeting on October 27.

Our Pack Meeting on the 27th will be a question and answer session for anyone going to Fall Encampment. We will have a potluck dinner, please bring your family’s favorite covered dish! Leaders are bringing all necessities, check your emails to know what to bring if you are a leader. Boys will go outside and we have really fun activities planned for them. The boys will earn at least one achievement that night, so try to come to help your son work toward his awards!
